Mission

The Sea of Dania is an outreach program of LKN Counseling & Autism Services. Our goal is to promote the early diagnosis of and early intervention for infants that are at potential risk for autism spectrum disorders or other genetic disorders through the support of evidence-based research.

The Vision...
1. To promote research projects and clinical examinations available for expectant parents and families of young children that screen for early detection of potential markers of autism spectrum or other genetic disorders.
*According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) 1 in 88 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, however recent surveys indicate that the number could be as high as 1 in 50 children (National Health Statistics Report March 20, 2013)

2. To assist families to find resources and access early intervention programs as well as medical treatment prior to age 2.
"There is considerable empirical evidence that early intensive behavior analytic intervention produces large and lasting functional improvements in many children with autism." {Howard et al., Published in: Research in Developmental Disabilities, 26, 359-383 (2005)}

Future goals:
1.To develop a "Comprehensive Standard of Care" that includes medical and early intensive behavioral treatment based on the principals of
     Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) which families can use as a guideline when their baby is identified at risk.

2. To provide grants that support research related to identifying risk factors leading to early detection and intervention.
